Our Call (poem)
by Karl Sider
Would David have turned back from swinging his sling
When victory God put in His hand?
Would Daniel have kept himself out of that den
When God had the lions in Hand?
And what if the shepherd, yes Moses by name
Had turned back and copped out in fear?
How could he go on and still tend to his flock
When God's call was clear in his ear?
Once Joseph had heard and discerned the King's dream
How could he then stand and not care?
How then could he see someone else on the throne
When he knew his place was right there?
Just how would he feel if his family would die
The slow death of eating poor food
While knowing that he gave away what was theirs
The right to the King's royal food?
So how Can we now, seeing all we have seen
Neglect such a call from our King?
He's calling us simply to put in the stone
And swing without fear our small sling
He's put us in dens with large lions around
And promises to keep the peace
He burns in the bush of our dear pastor's heart
And asks us to be His increase
As Joseph stood up and served food to his foes
He ran not to chase his own gain
And here we are now with greater a call
As vessels through us God will reign
In sonship the Son did not reckon His life
Worthy to forfeit His crown
So how is it fair to think we will give less
When we hope to share in His crown?
If we don't fall flat on His altar today
And be lit by His holy fire
Our chance to stand up and be counted in Christ
Will simply pass by and expire
His fire needs vessels to burn bright and strong
Our hearts hold the flame of His soul
I'm hearing the call, I want the flame hot
I'm taking my stand in the whole
